Hand-me-downs

A second-hand or used good is one that is being purchased by or otherwise transferred to a second or later end user. A used good can also simply mean it is no longer in the same condition as it was when it was first transferred to the current end user. Used goods may be transferred informally between friends and family for free as “hand-me-downs”  sometimes people use “hand-me-downs” due to weight loss or they may be sold for a fraction of their original price at garage sales or in church bazaar fundraisers. Governments require some used goods to be sold through regulated markets, as in the case of items which have safety and legal issues, such as used firearms or cars; for these items, government licensing bodies require certification and registration of the sale, to prevent the sale of stolen, unregistered, or unsafe goods. As well, for some high-value used goods, such as cars and motorcycles, governments regulate used sales to ensure that the government gets its sales tax revenue from the sale.

Many items that are considered obsolete and worthless in developed countries, such as decade-old hand tools and clothes, are useful and valuable in impoverished communities in the country or in developing countries. Underdeveloped countries like Zambia are extremely welcoming to donated second-hand clothing. At a time when the country’s economy was in severe decline the used goods provided jobs by keeping “many others busy with repairs and alterations”. It has created a type of spin-off economy at a time when many Zambians were out of work. The used garments and materials that were donated to the country also allowed for the production of “a wide range of fabrics” whose imports had been previously restricted. The trade is essentially executed by women who operate their small business based on local associations and networks. Not only does this provide self-employment, but it also increases household income and enhances the economy. But while many countries would be welcoming of second-hand goods, it is also true that there are countries in need who refuse donated items. Countries like Poland, Philippines and Pakistan have been known to reject second hand items for “fear of venereal disease and risk to personal hygiene”. Similar to these countries, India also refuses the import of second-hand clothing but will accept the import of wool fibers, including mutilated hosiery which is a term meaning “woollen garments shredded by machine in the West prior to export”. Through the production of shoddy, most of which is produced in Northern India today, unused clothing can be recycled into fibres that in turn are spun into yarn to be reused into ‘new’ used goods at a later point in time. The acceptance of second hand goods goes beyond the need of the people and into the hands of government officials. United States taxpayers can deduct donations of used goods to charitable organizations. Both Goodwill Industries and the Salvation Army web sites have lists of items with their estimated range of values. Another way that people transfer used goods is by giving them to friends or relatives. When a person gives an item of some value that they have used to someone else, such as a used car or a winter coat, it is sometimes referred to as a “hand-me-down”.

Used items can often be found for sale in thrift stores and pawnshops, auctions, garage sales, and in more recent times online auctions. Some stores sell both new and used goods (e.g. car dealerships), while others only sell new goods but may take used items in exchange for credit toward the purchase of newer goods. For example, some musical instrument stores and high-end audio stores only sell new gear, but they will accept good quality used items as trade ins towards the purchase of new items; after the store purchases the used items, they then sell them using online auctions or other services.

When an item is no longer of use to a person they may sell or pawn it, especially when they are in need of money. Items can also be sold (or taken away free of cost) as scrap (e.g. a broken-down old car will be towed away for free for its scrap metal value). Owners may sell the good themselves or to a dealer who then sells it on for a profit. However, because the process takes some effort on part of the owner they may simply keep possession of it or dump it at a landfill instead of going to the trouble of selling it. It has been common to buy second-hand or used good on markets or bazaars for long time. When the web became popular, it became common with web sites such as eBay and Yahoo! Classifieds.

The strategy of buying used items is employed by some to save money, as they are typically worth less than the equivalent new items. Purchasing used items for reuse prevents them from becoming waste and saves costly production of equivalent new goods. Motivations for purchase include conserving natural resources and protecting the environment, and may form part of a simple living plan.

Despite this, many people prefer to buy most or all of their goods new. They may feel safer buying new because a warranty is provided or because they are concerned they may be buying stolen goods. Goods purchased secondhand may also be exempt from certain legal requirements (e.g. consumer protection laws). Other consumers may be willing to buy used, but simply do not know where to buy them or lack the expertise needed to make a good purchase (e.g. a used car). Haggling may be involved in purchase of used goods, especially in less formal situations like a yard sale or in pawnshops, where negotiation is often done. Some consumers are uncomfortable or inexperienced in this situation too, and may choose to buy new goods instead. However some simply prefer their goods brand new and/or feel secondhand items are inferior or shabby (the ‘yuck factor’), especially in the case of clothing or items used for eating such as plates or cutlery.

What’s the Funniest Joke in the World?

Cultures vary greatly in their perception of what’s funny — you’ll realize this if you ever travel to a foreign culture and attempt to translate a joke that works well in your native culture. This fact didn’t stop Professor Richard Wiseman (of the The British Association for the Advancement of Science) to attempt to determine what is the funniest joke in the world. The joke would have to be ranked highest among many countries of vastly different cultures. The project set out a request for joke submissions. The result was 40,000 jokes. The researchers had the jokes rated by a large sample population from diverse areas of the globe. The project was formally called LaughLab. I’ve often thought that if mankind ever discovered the funniest joke in the world, he may fall into a constant state of laughter and never regain his composure, pos sagging breasts sibly resulting in cardiac arrest or asphyxiation. In other words, he may laugh himself to death. I wondered if perhaps an ancient people had discovered the funniest joke, and had determined that it’s deadly for people to hear. Maybe it’s hidden in an ancient realm — like the ark of the covenant — possibly guarded by a long line of comedians. Is it like the DaVinci Code: A secret that mankind was never meant to uncover? We may never know that answer, but at least we’ll know what Dr. Wiseman determined to be the funniest joke across all cultures, Fortunately it won’t send you into a deadly laughing fit. According to a multi-cultural sample, the funniest joke is the following: A couple of New Jersey hunters are out in the woods when one of them falls to the ground. He doesn’t seem to be breathing, his eyes are rolled back in his head.

Your One Stop Store for everything related to digital cameras!

Hurray! The long wait is over! Nikon had us wait for such a long time for its newer models (D3100 and D7000) and it was just when we started thinking if Nikon will ever have an answer, anytime soon, to Canon’s T2i, 7D and 60D) they released these two wonderful cameras – D3100 and D7000. Let’s focus on D3100, shall we?So I finally had a chance to get hold of this D-SLR at Best Buy today. I am not a pro by any means but I have used many different D-SLRs including Canon (40D, T2i, XSi) and Nikon (D90, D5000). When I picked-up the camera for the first time, my initial reaction was, “whoa – this is so small and light weight”! It wasn’t that I wasn’t aware of the specs – I knew them beforehand but I was still blown away by how small and light it felt when I comprar proactol held it in my hands. Then, I thought, the grip would not be very comfortable but I was wrong as holding and operating the camera is just fine – thanks to Nikon’s well-thought-out design and grip. For the size and feel, it’s very similar to D3000 but has more goodies from the higher versions. So from an initial wow factor, I quickly moved on to focusing on features and capabilities. I have just started using this camera so more update will follow but in the meantime my initial assessment of this camera is – I am impressed! It is one heck of a camera which can certainly compete against the best in its class (Canon T1i, T2i, Nikon D5000). Check out detailed reviews at dpreview (.com) and cameralabs (.com) – they should be added soon if not already there.

Confidence Interval Calculations With Microsoft Excel

Confidence intervals often give you useful insights into data sets you’re trying to better understand. A confidence interval is the interval around a sample mean into which you expect the population mean to fall a certain percentage of the time. If you have a sample of size n and know the sample mean m and population standard deviation sigma (s), you can find the range into which the actual population mean will fall x% of the time. Common confidence levels are 90%, 95%, and 99%.Using the Confidence Function The CONFIDENCE function uses the following syntax: =CONFIDENCE (alpha,s,n) Alpha is the significance level. It equals 1 minus the confidence level (expressed as a decimal). The s argument is the standard deviation of the data set. The n argument gives the number of items in the sample. An Example Confidence Interval Calculation For example, if a sample of 500 college graduates shows that they owe an average of $1 joint pain releif 2,000 in student loans at graduation and the population standard deviation is $2,000, you can find a 95% confidence interval estimate of the population mean amount owed. To do this using the CONFIDENCE function, enter alpha .05 as the first argument, the standard deviation 2000 as the second argument, and n 500 as the third argument. The function looks like this: =CONFIDENCE (0.05,2000,500) The function returns the value 175.30. So you can say with 95% confidence that the population mean is $12,000 plus or minus $175.30. (Note that if you have Microsoft Excel installed on your computer, you can copy the text shown above and paste the text into an Excel cell to make the calculation on your computer.) One final note should be made here: If the value of the population standard deviation is unknown, you can use the value of the sample standard deviation as the point estimate of the population standard deviation.

Parenting Game: A Short Story

Hasan A. Yahya, Ph.D In my younger life, I was the kind of parent that I now ashamed of, an authoritarian bully. I was narrow-minded and quickly angered and become violent. Especially when my kids do not understand my commands or when they disobey my orders. I grew up in the a small town for a poor family, the father works for 14 hours, this is true, you see, if you calculate it, my father was a stone breaker, uses his hands and a heavy hammer to break rocks in the mountain. He used to woke up at four in the morning, makes tea and eat a bread with olive oil and za?ter**. He usually leaves at five to wait for the truck to take him with other workers to the mountain, and stays there until seven in the evening, so, it is true, from five in the morning to seven in the eve window replacement abbotsford ning, fourteen long hours everyday except Friday, the unpaid holiday. The only day we see our father. Our mother, however took care of us. She cooks everyday for the family, and sometimes asks me to send one dish to my aunt, who lives few houses away from our home. The family fought to survive as refugees, but not in camps. My father managed to have a one room apartment. I was one of five brothers, and two sisters. In my high school, I joined my father working a manual work, also in the mountains. I believed that my wife and children belonged to me as we belonged to our father. My attitude toward others was, stay away from interfering in other?s business. That was what I learned from my mother. Stay away from problems. I thought that was also the way my father thinks.

The Need for Intention to Create Legal Relations in Contract Law

Under UK law, an agreement supported by consideration is not enough to create a legally binding contract, the parties must also have an intention to create legal relations. Often, the intention to create legal relations is expressly stated by the contracting parties. In other situations, the law will readily imply the intention, because of the nature of the commercial dealings between the parties. The presence of consideration is often indicative of the intention to create legal relations, though there are situations where the presumption of the intention can be rebutted, thus determining that there is no contract and no legal liability. In many domestic agreements, for example those made between husbands and wives and parents and children, there is no intention to create legal relations and no intention that the agreement should be subject to litigation. Familial relationships do not preclude the formation of a binding contract, though hair remover for men to create contractual relations, there must be a clear intention on either party to be bound. While there are conflicting legal authorities on whether specific facts involving familial relations result in binding and enforceable agreements, it seems settled that in domestic agreements there is a rebuttable presumption that the parties do not have intention to create legal relations. In commercial agreements, there is a rebuttable presumption that parties intend to create legal relations and conclude a contract. In determining whether parties have created legal relations, courts will look at the intentions of the parties. If in the course of business transactions, the parties clearly and expressly make an agreement stating that it ought not be binding in law, then a court will uphold those wishes. However, if a court is of the view that there is any ambiguity of intention, or that such intention is unilateral, such contract will be voided.
